The Tears and Triumphs of Galilah is included in the Books of the Avenger of Blood(Go'el Ha-Dam in Hebrew). The Avenger is a Biblical figure mentioned in Numbers 35, Deuteronomy 19, and Joshua 20.

The events within take place at the beginning of the Babylonian Captivity(Read 2 Kings 22-25, 2 Chronicles 33-36, and Jeremiah 34-41 for background). Galilah, whose family perishes during the siege of Jerusalem due to the famine, is taken to Mizpah where Gedaliah has been made the governor over the Jews who haven't been taken to Babylon, by King Nebuchadnezzar. Those in Mizpah dwell in relative peace until the governor is assassinated, and many others along with him. Galilah is God's unlikely choice to avenge the blood of His people.
